United Way Tops List of America’s Favorite Charities

ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 30, 2018) – United Way Worldwide is No.1 in a new Chronicle of Philanthropy report ranking the 100 charities that raised the most in cash and stock contributions in 2017. America’s Favorite Charities identifies the organizations Americans are most willing to support. The rankings are based on total cash support — the value of money and stock received as gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.

"United Way Worldwide is proud to be recognized as America’s Favorite Charity by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Credit for this recognition goes to every partner, donor, advocate and volunteer who shares our vision, and has joined us in the fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community,” said Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy focused exclusively on cash and stock that comes directly from individuals. The report represents a new approach from its previous ranking model, the Philanthropy 400, which measured contributions to donor-advised funds, as well as donated products.

Other favorites include Salvation Army, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Harvard University.
